This post is related to my work as a visiting PhD research fellow at the Interactive Technologies Group (Information and Communication Technologies Department) of Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.
The project I am currently working on in collaboration with Dr. Davinia Hernández-Leo and Dr. Manel Jimenez- Morales seeks to investigate and inform the ways in which educators learn to work on the processes of designing and facilitating massive open online courses (moocs). The study seeks to contribute to the creation of guidelines that will assist educators in their moocs teaching (design, run and facilitate). The survey is designed to tell us something about how people learn in their role as educators. We are interested particularly in how people learn about designing, running or facilitating a mooc and how they prepare to work on a mooc.
The questionnaire that is used in this project was adapted from the questionnaire that was used in the ExplOERer project in which Allison Littlejohn and Nina Hood developed to measure how educators across Europe learn open educational practice. The questionnaire was sent to educators involved in MOOCs at the University Pompeu Fabra that were asked to fill it in by 23 June. After this date the data will be aggregated for analysis. The results of the MOOC survey will benefit other educators by informing design of learning opportunities.
